Former KC Chiefs S Kyle McCarthy getting closer to a return to the field

McCarthy will step back on the field a full year after injuring his knee.

Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Kyle McCarthy will likely be cleared next week to return to the field after knee surgery and subsequent rehab under the eye of Dr. James Andrews, according to Joe Scalzo of the Youngstown Vindicator.

McCarthy was originally signed by the Chiefs way back in February 2012 after being released from the Denver Broncos after two seasons with the division rivals. He was with the team for just a few months before he injured his knee later that July. He was placed on injured reserve, ending his time with the Chiefs before it ever started.

McCarthy is currently a free agent since the Chiefs last cut him and he's ready to show teams what he can do.

"Once that happens, I look forward to letting teams know and hopefully get myself in a camp somewhere and turn some heads," said McCarthy.

"It's really just up to me know. There's no doubt I'll get an opportunity somewhere. Through the years I've formed some pretty good relationships with different teams and coaches and that goes a long way. The drive is still there. I feel I can still play and I really just love the game."

The Notre Dame product will turn 27-years-old in September. He played in 12 games with the Broncos in two seasons with three tackles.
