I've been thinking about the direction Andy is going with the offense this off season and i've come up with an idea. Is it possible that he is going back to the roots of the west coast system and the Walsh era? Don't laugh just stay with me here.
With the changes of personnel in the o-line,the probable scheme in change from zone to athletic power type blocking. Reid made a big change in the QB position by aquiring Alex Smith and his back-up Chase Daniel both of whom are accurate, smart players with quick releases. This will help with the west coast style pass/run game. Aquired multi faceted tight ends who can stretch the field if needed and are excellent down field blockers in the screen game. The FO added to Jammal Charles by aquiring multi talented full backs whom if needed can line up as h-backs,tight ends or even split out. All of these changes add up to the ball control type offense with a red zone nastiness of yesteryear.
Just think about this for a minute- Jammal Charles as Roger Craig,Alex Smith as Joe Montana, Sherman or Wilson as Tom Rathman, Bowe as Rice, Baldwin or Avery as Taylor and Angry Travis(kudos to MN for the nickname)as Dwight. seriously i can see this coming and working out very well. A ball control passing and running game with equal prowess in both areas and the mean streak in the red zone. They can punch you in the mouth or beat you down field or just screen and draw you to death, you will never know what is coming. Just a lonely man and his thoughts on a snowy day in MAY.
