All these Geno OBSESSED fans posted on here CONSTANTLY over the past few months. I'd like to hear what you have to say about Geno now? Constant "analysis" from armchair GM's who watch some grainy youtube videos, pegged this guy as the Number 1 pick for us. In fact, when the Chiefs made the deal for Alex Smith, I had to read about how dumb the Chiefs were for making that move almost everyday on here and most of you were very LOUD about it. So, it's my turn!
Once word spread that Geno, most likely was not going in the 1st round, then the Geno slobberfest continued into the 2nd round. "Oh, we could have Fisher and Geno?!?" "How stupid is our front office!"
I'm one of these fans who believe the Chiefs GM (who has 30+ years experience in scouting/playing) all the Chiefs scouts who live on the road watching these guys play and do this for a living, stand to make a better decision on who our Chiefs QB should be! Oh yes, the Chiefs have made terrible decisions for years, but this is Andy Reid's and John Dorsey's first year with the Chiefs. They didn't trade for Matt Cassel and hire Todd Haley and Brian Daboll to run this thing into the ground. Alex Smith is not Matt Cassel 2.0...Everyone wants to compare that move, yet they ignore when Dick Vermeil came in and traded a 1st round pick for Trent Green? A 1st rounder! What had Trent Green done, before coming to the Chiefs? Was he a 1st pick in the draft? Nope. Did he take his team to the NFC Championship? Had he ever put up amazing stats, before coming here? Nope! Did Dick Vermeil know how to turn around teams? Yes! You can't just generalize every move by 1 comparison. For every Matt Cassel and Kevin Kolb trade, there is a Trent Green and Matt Schaub deal out there as well. All I know is, the current Front office, has shown to know a few things about QB's, so I was excited to see what they would do. Passing on Geno and going with Alex was a bold move!
And guess what? THEY WERE RIGHT! The Chiefs have a good defense and plenty of talent on offense. This isn't a team that needs to take a chance on a overhyped, non-prospect QB, just to satisfy the fanbase who is obsessed with getting a rookie QB in here. This team needs to start winning. NOW.
I mean, I heard many of you rant and rave about HAVING to draft a QB number 1. Ya, you would be the same guys to rant and rave about how stupid Reid and Dorsey are for taking him, when the team is terrible.
It's all still to be determined, but Geno went to the Jet's in the 2nd round. Teams with TERRIBLE quarterbacks passed him over, sometimes TWICE! Hell, he wasn't even the first QB taken. He went to the Jets, who have the most terrible QB situation I've seen in a long time. The next QB went in the 4th round!
So, all you armchair GM's who think you know more than anyone and all your analysis and blah, blah, blah....where you at? We got Alex Smith as our QB in the 2nd round over the crap that was in the draft! Be happy Chiefs fans....is Alex Smith, Andrew Luck? Of course not! If Geno Smith was as good as RGIII or Andrew Luck, the Chiefs would NOT have dealt for Alex Smith.
Alex Smith was the BEST option available to lead this current team towards the playoffs. PERIOD. It was somewhat expensive to land him, but at least we have a shot at WINNING this year. I don't care how he does it...but Hunt, Dorsey and Reid want to WIN games. And, Alex Smith gives this team the best chance to win football games.
I came across this regarding Geno Smith from Yahoo Sports:
Several NFL executives who spent "extensive time" with Jets rookie Geno Smith before the draft believe Smith faces significant NFL roadblocks because he's "tuned out" and fails to realize he doesn't know everything.
"I'm not sure he knows how to take instruction because he pretty much wouldn't listen or talk to our coaches," said one exec. "... You can't tell him anything right now. He's tuned out because he thinks he's got it all down." Another NFL exec questioned Smith's leadership. "He doesn't have much presence, not much of a leader. I don't think he's a bad person, but that's not enough to be a quarterback in this league." Per Yahoo's Jason Cole, Smith spent "much of his time on his cell phone" during pre-draft visits. "All these other players were talking to coaches, trying to get to know people and he was over there by himself," one source said. "That's not what you want out of your quarterback." May 1 - 3:55 PM

That is from "several GM's". Is that really who you want leading this team? Bu...bu...but he threw 41 tds and had a 71% percentage at West Virginia! Come on guys...these teams know WAY more than we do, and it looks like passing on Geno was a NO BRAINER move for the Chiefs.
Now, I'm watching some of you ridicule the Chiefs for dealing Javier Arenas for Sherman. The Arenas camp asked for a trade. Ever think that the Chiefs tried to deal him for a draft pick, and there were NO takers? Ever think the offers were just not there? Ever think that Andy Reid envisions a specific FB that we don't currently have on the roster? Maybe, Dorsey and Reid felt like their special teams blocking is a huge weakness as well (how many returns have we had the past few years? Didn't we just hire Taub, an excellent Special Teams coach?).
Don't you think, if the Chiefs could have landed a mid to high draft pick for Arenas, they would have? So, yes...Dorsey probably felt dealing Arenas, a 4th or 5th CB who might get cut for a starting caliber Full Back who can be a captain on Special teams for blocking and tackling made sense to them.
More than anything, I just wanted to call out the Geno slobberfest fans. Where you at? Stop being bitter fans based off the Pioli era. This Front of the Office, KNOWS what they are doing.
Come on Geno supporters, let's hear you defend him as the next best thing again? So, where you at Geno fans? Still think he should have been the number 1 pick? Still think he should have been our 2nd rounder? Still, rather have Geno and Fisher over Alex and Fisher? If so, what makes you say that? And, PLEASE, PLEASE stop telling me his stats in college...Colt McCoy completed 70% of his passes too!
Where you at Geno fans?!?!?!
