I like Dave Dameshek's series on NFL.com called "N-IF-L". Why? Because I think the same way. What if the Chiefs had done this? Or what if the Chiefs had done that?
Anyway, did you know that Todd Haley would still have his job and Scott Pioli would still be the GM if it had not been for the worst play in the NFL play book?
No, I am not talking about the "3rd and long draw" play or the "Thomas Jones up the middle for one yard" play.
I am talking about the flea-flicker! When was the last time this play worked!!! Seriously!? I haven't seen it run successfully in a long time.
But here is the scenario.....
The first play the have him run? Flea-Flicker....
(I couldn't find a way to embed it. Sorry)
Anyway, We know the Chiefs went on to win this one but didn't win again until After Orton returned and Haley was fired.
What if he had stayed healthy?
I believe the Chiefs would have finished the year 8-8 or maybe even 9-7 (WHAT?!), beating on the Denver Broncos for the division title. The Chiefs would have gone on to beat the Steelers in the playoffs (as they almost beat them in the regular season despite Tyler Palko) and then lost to Tom Brady and the Patriots in the Divisional round.
Of course, we would have all been sad about the playoff loss but super excited that the franchise was on the right track. Pioli would have be labeled a genius by all of us for picking up a great QB mid-season and we would have been salivating to see Jamaal return to the offense and the Chiefs return to the playoffs, but this time they would be competing for the Super Bowl.
And that is as far as my imagination can go.
Perhaps the Chiefs were always destined to go 2-14 this last season. We would have had Todd Haley out the door but Romeo would be the head coach this coming season....
Crap, I need to stop.
The moral of the story? Don't run the flea-flicker.
And now a useless poll.
