Chiefs draft picks 2013: 8 facts about Eric Fisher, the No. 1 pick

The Kansas City Chiefs have their man, selecting Eric Fisher No. 1 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft. Get to know the Chiefs new draft pick with these 8 facts about him. (H/T Chiefs media guide)

1. Nine offensive lineman were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft. Fisher was the first one off the board.

2. Fisher is the third Central Michigan player to join the Chiefs. One of those players -- Frank Zombo -- signed with the Chiefs earlier this month. The other is Steve Bograkos (1976).

3. Fisher is the first players drafted by the Chiefs from the MAC since the great Jake O'Connell (Miami Oh.) in 2009.

4. Fisher is the first player the Chiefs have ever drafted No. 1 overall in the NFL Draft. However, they drafted Buck Buchanan No. 1 overall in the AFL Draft in 1963.

5. The Chiefs have now drafted 13 offensive linemen in the first round, the highest of any position group. Next closest: defensive linemen (12).

6. Fisher is the fourth offensive lineman ever selected No. 1 overall, joining Ron Yary (1968),Orlando Pace (1997) and JakeLong (2008).

7. Fisher is the second Central Michigan player ever drafted in the first round. Joe Staley, 49ers left tackle, is the other. That means Alex Smith will have the only two Central Michigan first rounders in NFL history block for him.

8. Fisher is the highest player ever drafted from the MAC, surpassing the great Byron Leftwich in 2003. Muhammad Wilkerson was the last first round MAC player (2011).
