In many ways I am a very traditional, very old school sports fan. I hate the revolving atrocity that is Oregon Ducks uniforms. The Adidas uniforms foisted on college basketball teams during this year March Madness were horrifying and stupid. There is something to be said for leaving well enough alone and I wouldn't want to see the Chiefs go nuts and make changes that undermined the history of the franchise. Miami, Minnesota and Jacksonville are all taking advantage of the league's new partnership with Nike and making changes to their team's uniforms this year like Seattle did last year.
Having said that, I think it's time the Chiefs made some wholesale changes to team uniforms that haven't really changed much in the past half century. I wouldn't want the colors to change or for the arrowhead KC logo to be abandoned. But it's 2013. There's no way modern graphic design couldn't update the arrowhead logo into the modern age and keep its concept intact while making it look more slick and more contemporary. I wouldn't mind seeing a new CHIEFS font used as it hasn't changed since the late 80s. I wouldn't want to see anything that is primarily black because black isn't a team color and we aren't the fucking Raiders. Maybe a jersey redesign? Maybe an alternate white helmet with red facemask? Maybe an all red pants and jerseys combo?
I'd love to see Clark at least commission some design ideas from Nike and see what shakes loose. Let the fans see what alternatives might be available.
As I said, I wouldn't want to see something crazy or that abandons tradition. But wouldn't it be cool to have an actual throwback uniform so the Chiefs never have to wear that stupid Texans helmet ever again?
What do you think? What changes would you like to see?
