Kansas City Chiefs' Rodney Hudson is fine

Jamie Squire

Day one of the Kansas City Chiefs minicamp tells us that Rodney Hudson, who ended last season on IR, is fine.

Rodney Hudson has hardly played for the Kansas City Chiefs since they selected him with a second round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. After sitting out in year one, Hudson went down with a season-ending injury early last season. On Tuesday, he did participate with the Chiefs in their minicamp, which suggests he's just fine from his leg injury last season.

Asked if he were ready to play a game today, Hudson said, "Yeah, I'm ready to go." I'm taking that plus the fact that he was on the field as confirmation that he'll be fine, which is pretty much what I figured.

This is a case of hearing no news and assuming it's bad news.

Hudson was hurt in Week 3 last year. Here's what Romeo Crennel said back then: "There's a broken bone, but it doesn't require surgery and he's got to be off of it for several weeks and then several weeks on crutches, so it's going to be most of the season. It's going to be most of the season, so that's why he's not going to be able to come back."

It was an injury, but it did not seem like anything that would threaten his 2013 season. But then we go the entire 2012 season and the initial wave of this offseason without hearing anything on Hudson or how he was doing in his rehab. I wrote on this a few weeks ago and just assumed that Hudson would be OK, given how Romeo described the injury months earlier. Some others took the lack of news, and the report that the team called Ryan Lilja, as a sign that something was wrong.

But nope. It appears all is well.
