Branden Albert trade rumors: Chiefs would take a 2nd round pick, according to report

John Rieger-US PRESSWIRE

The Kansas City Chiefs have not traded left tackle Branden Albert, who has signed his one-year franchise tag tender. But many think he will eventually be traded. Per a new report, the price tag is a second round pick.

We initially heard that the Kansas City Chiefs wanted to trade Branden Albert and they were seeking a second round pick in 2013 in addition to another pick in 2014. A new report from SI's Peter King pegs the Chiefs asking price as a "high second round pick". Here's what King said in MMQB:

Kansas City hasn't found any takers for franchised left tackle Branden Albert -- I hear the Chiefs would take a high second-round pick for him -- and regardless whether Albert's moved or not, I don't see them doing anything but taking tackles Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher first.

Nothing too surprising ... I'm still predicting Albert will be traded. Trade rumors like this usually don't come out of nowhere. They start someplace, and they probably started with the Chiefs.

Albert trade rumors: everything we know

The Chiefs have options with Albert. They could reasonably keep Albert and draft Joeckel or Fisher, starting the rookies on the right side. Then the Chiefs would likely lose Albert next season, hoping to pick up a high compensatory pick. Or they could franchise him again next season. Or they could just trade him before the draft next week.

Albert hinted last week that there could be a deadline associated with this situation. He understands getting traded is a possibility and talked of the frustration of negotiating a new deal while GM Scott Pioli was in charge, then seeing those negotiations disappear when Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey came on board.
