It's about that time of year when we start looking at the Kansas City Royals schedule to see whether the Kansas City Chiefs will likely start their 2013 NFL schedule on the road or at home. The Chiefs and Royals usually don't play at home on the same day -- there are rare exceptions -- so as the KC Star's Adam Teicher points out, expect the Chiefs to start the season on the road.
The Royals are at home on Sept. 8, the first Sunday of the NFL season, which means the Chiefs are probably on the road. On Sept. 15, which is Week 2 in the NFL, the Royals are on the road. The following week they are back home and the week after that, the final one in September, they are away.
So if these schedules match up, we can guess that the Chiefs will go away, home, away and home to start the first month of the season.
For the first time in decades we may actually have to consider the October schedule ... but I'll believe that when I see it.
We already know the Chiefs 2013 preseason schedule:
Week 1 (Aug. 8-11): at Saints
Week 2 (Aug. 15-19): 49ers
Week 3 (Aug. 22-25): at Steelers
Week 4 (Aug. 29-30): Packers
And the Chiefs 2013 regular season opponents and locations:
Home: Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans,Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants
Away: Denver Broncos, San Diego Chargers, Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tennessee Titans, Philadelphia Eagles, Washington Redskins, Buffalo Bills
At Philly in Week 1, anyone?
