Former Eagles LB Akeem Jordan makes free agent visit to Kansas City Chiefs

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs were active early in free agency but things have settled down in the last month. On Friday, the KC Chiefs have two free agent visitors, including former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Akeem Jordan.

Then Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid signed linebacker Akeem Jordan as an undrafted free agent after the 2007 NFL Draft. Six years later, he could be signing Jordan again. According to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com, Jordan, a free agent, is visiting the Kansas City Chiefs on Friday. This comes in addition to the report that free agent safety Sherrod Martin, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, is also visiting the Chiefs on Friday.

The Chiefs have a need at inside linebacker. In fact, inside linebacker is really the only glaring need at this point (perhaps besides right tackle). The Eagles are also said to be interested in re-signing Jordan, reportedly offering him a contract. He also visited the Bengals and supposedly has interested from multiple teams.

Bleeding Green Nation wrote this about Jordan:

Throughout his time with the team, Jordan has been a sort of utility player, starting at all three linebacker positions and making his bones as a more than solid special teamer. He is an underdog in the true sense of the NFL. He is a bit undersized at 6'1" and 230-pounds, came of out of a small school and really has been behind a revolving door at his position. Still, he has stuck around and made himself a decent career, considering the average NFL career is three years.

Jordan sounds like a solid role player -- maybe not a starter -- but a good contributor. The Chiefs need linebackers so he's someone to keep an eye on.
