Andy Studebaker released by Kansas City Chiefs

Jamie Squire

Andy Studebaker announced on Twitter that he has been released by the Kansas City Chiefs. And, no, this is not an April Fools Day joke. At least he says it's not.

Andy Studebaker's time with the Kansas City Chiefs is up. The linebacker wrote on Twitter that he has been released from the Chiefs. Considering his salary ($2 million) and his role on the team, this is not a massive surprise but Studebaker was one of the good guys on the Chiefs so he will be missed.

Here is the message he sent via Twitter announcing his release:

To my teammates,

It has been an honor to go through life with you for the last 5 years. We have battled a lot of tough times together and I am honored to have had the opportunity to play with you.

To the community,

Thank you for making Kansas City a home for my family. From being fresh out of college, to having a young fmaily, the last 5 years has been a true joy to be a part of this community.

To the fans,

I have many unforgettable memories of game day at arrowhead stadium. You are a truly unique fan base, and I had a great time playing for you. Thank you for your support.

To the Hunt family,

Thank you for giving me an opportunity to be a part of your organization. I have been blessed to be a part of your family for the last 5 years, and I am grateful to you.

Studebaker was in the final year of a four-year contract he signed three years ago. He first arrived in Kansas City after the Chiefs signed him off the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad near the end of the 2008 season. He was set to be a role player for the Chiefs this season but his salary made him a target so we knew his release was a possibility.

Before you ask...

Best of luck to Studebaker in the future.
