That's right, EJ Manuel is Mike Mayock's #2 rated QB on his third edition of position-by-position draft prospect rankings. It was my opinion, as was others, that the Chiefs should select Manuel with their 2nd round pick, regardless of who else was available and even if the Chiefs had chosen to select Geno Smith with their #1. I honestly believe Manuel will end up being the best out of this class. All the talent is there, he just needs a year or two to sit and learn the game. However, given the fact that we no longer have our 2nd round pick, we no longer have that option seeing as how Manuel will be chosen no later than the 2nd round. His stock is rising, though, and there's a chance he sneaks into the 1st round (probably by a team that trades into the 1st, my bet is Buffalo). So maybe we had no chance to begin with....but I am hoping the Chiefs take a chance and hope he falls. The Chiefs must find a way to recuperate a 2nd round pick after they foolishly gave up their own for Alex Smith (arguing the compensation, not the trade). A trade-down from our #1 would be most satisfactory, but a couple of other options have been mentioned. A trade involving either Branden Albert, or Tamba Hali, most likely nets us a 2nd rounder (possibly 1st rounder) and extra picks. As much as I like these two players, the chance to draft our QOTF means much more. And sure, Manuel could easily end up being a bust. But I see too much talent, leadership, and strong work ethic in him, to not give it a chance. Make it happen, Mr Dorsey.
