First I would like to start with some comparisons of Geno Smith and RGIII just to set up my thinking of this post. I know that Smith is no RGIII but after you look at some stats maybe he can be.
Geno Smiths stats in his Senior season: 71.2 Completion percentage, 4,205 passing yards, 8.1 yards per attempt, 42TDS 6INT and a 163.9 rating
RGIII stats in his senior season: 72.4 Completion percentages, 4,293 passing yards, 10.7 per attempt, 37TDS 6INT and a 189.5 rating.
I have been really doing some research and it is kind of hard to do at this point because teams are putting on fronts and smoke screens so this is what I have come up with in my opinion.
Jacksonville knows that we will not take Geno Smith with the first overall pick and to me that means that they are unlikely to trade up to us unless we can convince them that someone else is trading up to get Smith like Minnesota did to Cleveland last year with Trent Richardson.
Then you have the Eagles I believe they are just putting on a front with Geno Smith unless they are willing to release Mike Vick and his monster 1 year contract I think they have QBs in place for right now and need other positions and can compete in that division with what they have.
We then have Oakland and there is no way we will trade with someone in the division so this is completely out of the question.
You then have Arizona and wild card Cleveland I have said it before and I will say it again Arizona is going to go into the season with Drew Stanton as their starter unless they find someone in the second or third round to compete with him, and to me Cleveland is a wild card that no one is talking about they have a 30 year old Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy they need a QB and if they feel Geno Smith can be the guy then don’t be surprised if they are one of the teams that will be talking to us about trading up to number 1 to draft him.
Now I move my attention to the Bills this team has Tarvis Jackson as their starter there is no way this is happening and they may want Geno Smith Buddy Nix has said they will trade in the draft if they feel their QB of the future is there and I think this is the most likely situation for us to trade down. I know according to the trade value chart it seems that the Bills would need to give up a ton to get to the number 1 pick but let’s take a look at where the Bills have drafted in the first round since 2008.
2008: Pick 11 2009: Pick 11 2010: Pick 9 2011: Pick 3 and 2012: Pick 10 so for the last 5 years the bills have an average draft position in the first round of pick number 9 so I will take this amount on next year’s first round pick and the number 9 pick is worth 1,350 points. So this is what I think can get it done for the bills trade to the chiefs. In the first round we swap picks the Bills get pick 1 and we get pick 8 we also get pick 41 from the Bills in round 2 and the Bills first round pick next year this is fair trade for both team especially for the Bills who only had to give a 2nd round and 1st round pick to move up 7 spots to get the QB of the franchise that they haven’t had in years.
Final Mock now with our picks that we have after this trade, just to let you all know I don’t think that we trade Brandon Albert I think he get his long term contract that he is looking for, and we have a competition at RT between Stevenson and do you know that Winston gave up more sacks last year than Alber Schwartz. Jeff Allen will start at LG. One more little nugget for those of you that were upset for the release of Eric Winston Winston gave up more sacks than Albert, Allen, and Stevenson combined. Just one more thing before the mock but every year for the last 4 years experts have said that they chiefs will take an Offensive lineman in the first round hasn’t happened and it may not happen this year depending on who is available at 8.
Round 1 (8): Star Lotulelei (3-4 DE) Raising up draft boards again and would be a steal at number 8.
Round 2 (41): Barrett Jones(OC) this guy has played multiple positions on the O-line and if he is here we take him no way he gets out of the second round I have seen him mocked in the third no way.
Round 3 (63): Jonathan Cyprien (SS) I know this guy has been getting some momentum lately but if you look at the Safety and Corner Back market in Free agency I have to think this small school kid is going to fall right into our laps which will give Berry a chance to move to FS.
Round 3 (96): Marcus Lattimore (RB) might still have some issues but could be a replacement for Charles when he becomes a free agent.
Round 4 (99): Kiko Alonso (ILB) we weren’t just looking at Dion Jordan when our whole staff went to Oregon’s pro day.
Round 5 (134): Ryan Swope (WR) this guy put up a 4.19 at his pro day but that doesn’t mean that will elevate his draft stock unless Al Davis was still alive.
Round 6 (170): Denard Robinson (WR) why not take a chance on this guy it is the 6th round.
Round 6 (204): Trevardo Williams (OLB)
Round 7 (207) Johnny Adams (CB)
Tell me what you guys think?
