So I am sure everyone is tired of the whole Alex Smith trade discussion, but I wanted to bring up some of the ignorant things I have heard over the past few weeks as well as provide just as ignorant counter arguments.... Here goes nothing.
"Alex Smith is Matt Cassel."
-- What planet were you born on? Clearly they are not the same person, on September 26, 2010 both Matt Cassel and Alex Smith were in the same place at the same time playing against each other in Arrowhead. It is physically impossible for Alex Smith to be Matt Cassel.
"We should have drafted a QB #1 overall and kept our picks."
-- HELLO? Don't you realize that in over 30 years in the AFC West only one quarterback has been drafted #1 overall and kept on the team as a regular starter? That QB was JaMarcus Russell. Therefore 100% of QBs who are drafted #1 overall in the AFC West are going to be exactly like JaMarcus Russell. It's entry level statistics my friend, help yourself to a book.
"A second round pick was way too much compensation."
-- Matt Cassel threw so many picks last season the management wanted to lessen the amount of picks in the organization any way they could. Hey, leadership starts at the top by example. Expect the lower amount of picks to transition to the QB play next year.
"Alex Smith is a retread, the Chiefs will never do anything big with him."
-- The way I see it, the Chiefs can't win a playoff game without an ex-49er QB. You have to win playoff games to make it to the super bowl. Therefore the Chiefs need an ex-49er QB to make it to the super bowl. Duh
