Rumors surrounding free agent cornerback Sean Smith have been flying this morning and it appears the Kansas City Chiefs are indeed involved. Per a report from ESPN, the Chiefs are pursuing Smith, which makes sense given their need at cornerback.

[UPDATE: It's done! Sean Smith to the Chiefs!]

I've said since the start of free agency that cornerback is a need for the Kansas City Chiefs. When the Denver Broncos signed Wes Welker, it became even more of a need, despite the signing of Dunta Robinson. That's why this report about the Chiefs chasing Sean Smith makes a lot of sense:

Yes, yes, it would make sense. That's why the KC Chiefs should make this happen. The cornerback market has started off slow with few big deals. There's a lot of cornerback talent out there, which only serves to drive down the price on everyone. Three cornerbacks are necessary in the NFL these days but when your top rival signs the most prolific pass-catcher over the last six seasons, it becomes even more of a priority.

We'll see what happens here, but I'm certainly intrigued.
