I tried to post this as a response to a comment in http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2013/2/7/3956946/branden-albert-top-5-left-tackle-contract-chiefs, but it was too long. I didn't want to have the work go to waste, so here FYI are the results of players who were franchised in the last 5 years.

There are several examples of players changing teams, but far more often they are retained by the team that franchised them.

Out of 63 tags handed out 11 waited out the tag and signed with other teams in free agency and 3 players were traded (two such trades involved the Chiefs).

An overwhelming majority of the players that resigned with their teams did so in the same year they were tagged. This doesn't bode well for those hoping to resign Dwayne Bowe.
