I've never written a Fanpost, but after reading the reaction to the impending Alex Smith trade I felt compelled to do so. I too, like many of you am not a fan of what the Chiefs reportedly gave up to get Smith, and I too would of loved the Chiefs to draft a QB with either of their first 2 picks. But this reaction is crazy.
Being English and getting into the NFL relatively recently (10 years ago, i'm 31 now), I admit I haven't had to endure the same wait for a Playoff victory or home grown QB as many of you, but I still eat, sleep, breathe Chiefs football and long for the Vince Lombardi trophy (I'd settle for a playoff victory to start) to be back with the Chiefs after 40+ years.
But we have to start somewhere.
Do I like the trade, not really, do I like Reid & Dorsey trying to do something about our biggest need of course and if or when the trade backfires we can look back and say I told you so, but until that day I refuse to slate them for trying. Put it this way, If the team end's up trading the first overall pick, moving back to to the 5 - 10 range and an extra 2nd round pick in my eyes that would change everything. We'd have virtually our full compliment of picks back and at least a mid level QB that we certainly didn't have before the trade.
I'll trust Reid, Dorsey & Co. to evaluate the talent and pick who THEY feel is QB that gives us the best chance to win now and wait with baited breath to see what they do next. But i'm certainly not ready to pull the plug on the new regime before a downs been played.
PS I love AP and being in England and unable to get NFLN and such it's a god send.
