Offseason Moves

With the combine officially over and two weeks to spare until free agency begins, everybody is going to have their opinions on what moves the Chiefs should or shouldn't make. The Chiefs were historically bad last year but their roster does seem to have some talent (atleast on the defensive side). While they may not be a Super Bowl contender next season no matter what moves they make, they can compete for the playoffs. The AFC West is a very weak division and the Chiefs do not have the toughest schedule so they playoffs is a definite possibility if they can fix some of the woes from last season. Here is what I would love to see the Chiefs do this offseason to make them better in my mind.

First off they should keep Dwayne Bowe, whether franchise tag or long term contract. Branden Albert I am not totally sold on and with there being three very good LT prospects at the top of the draft I think the money used to pay him could and should be used elsewhere. Secondly regarding the draft they should be looking to trade down but not out of the top 10. Preferably I would love to see them orchestrate some sort of deal with the Jets to acquire Darelle Revis without dropping out of the top 10. This would allow the Chiefs to still be in good position to pick up one of the three top LT in this years draft. In the second round I believe they should take the best player available at either the WR or ILB spot to hopefully get a starter in that position this season. I believe the following should also be of interest in the 3rd round. Then continue to build depth with the rest of the draft.

Now lets get to the QB position because we all have witnessed over the past few years how much of a headache is can cause. I believe that the teams that will be in the running to trade for Alex Smith will be the Chiefs and Cardinals. Here is where things do get a little tricky, I personally would dare the 49ers to trade him in division to the Cardinals and only offer a 4th rounder at best. I also do not think that the 49ers would hang on to Alex Smith as a backup with that kind of salary and other free agents on their roster. This would create an ideal situation for the Chiefs (obviously highly optimistic). So next season hopefully in my mind the new Chiefs in Red and Yellow would be Joeckel, Fisher or Johnson, Darelle Revis, Alex Smith and a 2nd and 3rd round WR and ILB, along with Dwayne Bowe returning. I think if that can somehow be the results of this offseason the Chiefs would not only be in prime position to compete for a division title, they can get hot late in the season and make a Super Bowl run similar to the Ravens of this season.
