NFL Draft 2013: Chiefs GM says no 'clear-cut guy' at No. 1, predicts at least QBs in the first round

USA TODAY Sports

The Kansas City Chiefs have begun what I am starting to believe is the process of letting down the fans who want a first round quarterback. Though he didn't say it, John Dorsey's words to Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star were the clearest yet that signal the Chiefs are unlikely to take a quarterback first overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.

The dream of a quarterback emerging for the Kansas City Chiefs to select No. 1 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft is starting to die. For weeks now we've seen indications from outsiders, like ESPN's Mel Kiper and Todd McShay, that the Chiefs are unlikely to take a quarterback No. 1 overall. The reasoning, of course, is that there isn't an Andrew Luck or an RGIII in this draft and if I hear that line about Luck and RGIII one more time I swear I'm going to explode!!!

John Dorsey spoke with Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star and he might as well have come right out and said that the Chiefs aren't drafting a quarterback with the top pick. Consider these quotes from Dorsey about this year's quarterback class, via the Star:

"There is no quarterback where personnel guys can definitely say, ‘He's a first-round pick.' "

"There really wasn't one clear-cut guy."

"There are too many technical flaws, scheme flaws."

Stuck between Luck/RGIII the year before and Clowney the year after. Such a classic Chiefs situation.

Dorsey told the Star that he thinks at least two quarterbacks will be picked in the first round. Who will those be? Your guess is as good as mine.

A month or so ago when Clark Hunt was on the radio, talking to the paper and other mediums he kept saying there wasn't a clear cut No. 1 quarterback for the Chiefs. At the time I thought that may have been part of the draft game -- throwing people off the scent or doing whatever it is teams do during draft seasons. But it's becoming clearer to me that Hunt was probably telling the truth.

There doesn't appear to be a quarterback there.
