Arrowheadlines: Kansas City Chiefs News 2/16

Good morning! Here is today's Kansas City Chiefs news. Enjoy!

Reports: Chiefs Interested In Eagles' QB Nick Foles from KC Star

What makes things sticky is that the Eagles say they don't want to part with Foles and that it might take a high draft pick to get him out of Philadelphia. That might just be public posturing on the part of the Eagles, who might actually accept something less in a trade for Foles.

It's difficult to picture the Chiefs giving up a first- or second-round draft pick this year for Foles.

Inside Free Agency: Day 6 from The Mothership

Osi Umenyiora is a two time Pro Bowler (2005 & 2007), who was once considered one of the top defensive linemen in the NFL. However, as reported by Jenny Vrentas of Star-Ledger, Umenyiora's contract expired days after the Super Bowl and his departure from the Giants seems almost imminent.

If 2012 was Umenyiora's last run with the G-Men, he went out with the following stat line:

16 games (four starts), 27 solo tackles (15 assists), six sacks, one pass defensed and two forced fumbles.

Eagles Sending Andy Reid Massage from ESPN

Quarterback is Reid's greatest need in Kansas City. It is natural to think Foles would intrigue Reid. The Eagles have said Foles will compete to be the starting quarterback, but he doesn't appear to be a great fit for the offense of new coach Chip Kelly.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Eagles decided to deal Foles. And I'm not surprised about this report. The Eagles are going to try to get as much a possible for Foles.

Chiefs Fight Age Discrimination Suit from FOX4KC

Steven Cox filed suit claiming he was wrongfully terminated. Cox was a maintenance manager with the Chiefs for 12 years...

...The trial is expected to last two weeks and is not the only age discrimination suit the Chiefs currently face.

Geno Smith Wants To Be The No.1 Pick, Talks NFL Combine from SB Nation

Geno Smith appeared on radio in Kansas City Friday, saying that he sees himself going off the board before other quarterbacks, and wants to be the No. 1 overall pick.

There's obviously a lot of chatter about Smith going first overall to Kansas City. The Chiefs need a quarterback -- they haven't taken one in the first round since 1983, and Matt Cassel and Brady Quinn aren't exactly cutting it -- and the Chiefs have the first opportunity to select.

Broncos' Clady To Receive Franchise Tag from Daily Camera

Ryan Clady is an unrestricted free agent who isn't going anywhere.

The Broncos' All Pro left tackle will return to protect Peyton Manning's blind side.

"We're going to tag him," said John Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations.

A Look At The Kansas City Chiefs Needs For The 2013 Offseason from Sports Chat Place

The 2012 Kansas City Chiefs were a case study in the worst case scenario for what happens when you have abysmal Quarterbacking. It's not very often that a 2-14 team has a 1,500+ yard rusher and a Defense with 6 former first round draft choices and 2 former second rounders. When you add to that mix a true #1 stud Wide Receiver and a perfectly competent Offensive Line, you have a recipe for a quick turn around.

Will Peyton Hillis Stay In AFC West from ESPN

Hillis was not effective in Kansas City last season. He had just 309 yards on 85 carries. He did have 101 yards on 15 carries in Week 16. Hillis, just 27, is a 6-foot-2, 250 pounds. He will get another chance elsewhere. He has already played for Denver and Kansas City (he signed with the Chiefs last season on a one-year deal). Let's see if Hillis could continue his AFC West tour:

Eight In The Box: Must-Keep Free Agents from ESPN

Kansas City, receiver Dwayne Bowe: I went with Bowe over standout left tackle Branden Albert. If Bowe leaves in free agency, the Chiefs will have a lot to figure out at receiver, which is not a stable position for them as the Andy Reid era begins. If Albert cannot be re-signed, the Chiefs could easily take Texas A&M left tackle Luke Joeckel with the No.1 pick. If Bowe walks, there are no top receiving options in the draft.
