Chiefs' Andy Reid on 150 wins, more work for Knile Davis, and injury updates

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

KC Chiefs head coach Andy Reid met with the media on Monday to discuss the Chiefs 45-10 victory over the Washington Redskins, more work for Knile Davis, the job Donald Stephenson has done, the excellence of the Chiefs special teams and more injury updates.

Andy Reid's thoughts on the Chiefs-Redskins game
  • "I thought all three phases functioned well. Probably the first time this year that has taken place to that extreme."
  • "The fans were phenomenal. They amaze me."
  • It was good that the Chiefs won the turnover battle -- and scored points off it.
  • The third down defense was good but the third down offense (2-of-11) was not.
  • The two sacks by Tyson Jackson and Tamba Hali were big.
  • The offensive played well. "Was everything perfect? No. But they played at a very high level."
  • "We know that we still have a lot of work ahead of us. And we're not where we need to be yet. We're headed back in the right direction here."
Getting Knile Davis more work

"I just think it's a matter of getting the reps under his belt and his production there. He's a young guy that was banged up a little bit at the college level and we were able to gradually get him back into the swing of things and get used to the NFL, the protections in particular. Everybody's got quite a bit of trust in him to go out there and do a good job."

150 career wins for Andy Reid

"I didn't realize that. You don't look at that. That's not someplace I go with the number of wins. To even be considered in the same breath as Mike Holmgren, that's something special. I think he's a Hall of Fame football coach and deserves to be in there. He was a great mentor. I don't look at it the other way. I haven't sat down and gone through 150. I didn't know we were at that number. But let's get the next one."

Backup OT Donald Stephenson getting more work

Stephenson played in this game with Branden Albert out with a knee injury.

"You forget he's a second year player. He's going to have ups and downs, we understand that, young guy. He's talented. He's trying every day to get better, which is important. He is a tremendous athlete. You saw him on the field yesterday on Jamaal's long run, he was leading the pack down there. He has this great athletic ability. He can play on either side, and can probably play guard for you in games if you needed that. It's just a matter of him continuing to play, getting reps under his belt and developing."

On Dave Toub, Chiefs special teams coach

"He and [assistant special teams coach] Kevin O'Dea are like Batman and Robin. They work very well together. They're both very driven. The players respect him so they're going to try certain things, and the player will try this because they have the confidence. It works and they work really hard at making sure they fit themselves right on the blocks, put themselves in the right position against some of these great returners we go against."

No new injuries

All three players are considered day-to-day, according to Andy Reid.

  • LT Branden Albert - Hyper-extended knee
  • TE Anthony Fasano - Concussion
  • LB Justin Houston: Subluxed elbow

The day-to-day tag suggests Houston has a shot at returning this week. We shall see.
