If the Chiefs want to win this playoff game, the blueprint has already been drawn.
These guys broke the curse for the Chiefs in 2011. What curse you ask? Why the Indianapolis curse. You can find the details of that here. This trio showed offensive prowess on that day that was, well, remarkable. Cassel went 21 of 29 for 257yds, 4 TDs and no INTs, with a rating of 138.9. Bowe and Breaston caught those four TDs and Jackie Battle bulled his way straight ahead for 119 yds on 19 carries. Read it all here.
I've been seeing a lot of crazy stuff on this site in the last couple of days about the Chiefs going to a Super Bowl. Most of it I'm sure, is said in jest yet some are once again starting to believe.
The way to beat Indy in Indy is just exactly like these guys broke the curse. You can't give up on the run, but the pass is how they will score points. If Reid is known for ONE thing, it's his inability to over use the running plays on the football field.
The question now is, can Alex Smith wake up out of the funk he was in during his last start and get the ball where it needs to be to make it happen, or will he keep throwing the ball to opposing LBs? Way too many people around here are rooting for turning this offense one dimensional and leaning heavily on Charles for the win. The last time we tried that look what happened.
Reid and Smith need to come out throwing the ball fast and furious. It is my opinion that the Colts expect us to ride Charles and only throw when necessary. Going deep frequently will catch them off guard. The only time the Chiefs have ever won in Indy, they won with Matt Cassel, Dwayne Bowe and Steve Breaston and a back up RB who did his best impression of the Nigerian Nightmare. Battle can't quite compare to Okoye, but he put his head down and barreled forward for 119 yds.
What will Reid do? That, my friends, is the 64 thousand dollar question.
