Kansas City Chiefs could learn the cost of winning during this year's hiring cycle

The Kansas City Chiefs have been successful enough that other teams could try to hire away their assistant coaches or front office staff.

Shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated after their January 2011 playoff game against the Baltimore Ravens, the Chiefs learned the cost of winning when they lost Charlie Weis to the University of Florida. When you win, teams want your coordinators (especially when the coordinator doesn't get along with the head coach, as was the case with those Chiefs).

That very well could be the case again after this season. The Chiefs have a handful of assistants who could generate interest from other teams either for coordinator positions or head coaching jobs.

Defensive coordinator Bob Sutton: The Chiefs defense has been the story of 2013 in Kansas City. At least for the first half of the year. The NFL created a panel of former coaches and GMs to help identify potential coaching candidates. Bob Sutton's name was on that list.

Special teams coach Dave Toub: He has had head coaching interviews in the past and I wouldn't be surprised if he saw some this year. He's a special teams coach, which is not the place from which most head coaches come, but he could still be a candidate. He runs one of the best special teams units in the league.

Spread game analyst / special projects coach Brad Childress: No one really knows what Childress does from week-to-week as Andy Reid doesn't really talk about it. But he could be someone that gets coordinator interest elsewhere, given his head coaching experience.

Director of player personnel Chris Ballard: He is an accomplished young executive who could see interest as a GM from other teams.

I wouldn't be surprised to see any of these garner interest. But for selfish reasons I hope they can stay. It'll be up to Andy Reid to replenish his coaching staff and John Dorsey his front office staff should the Chiefs lose any of these guys.
