As I was marveling at what Peyton Manning has done this year I realized that he has indeed totaled more yards and touchdowns than the Chiefs two most important players combined. This is not meant to be a slight toward Alex Smith. I love what he has done this year as a quarterback and leader for this team. He has been efficient and won games. However, it is evident to me that in today's NFL, where 4,000 is the new 3,000 and 5,000 is the new 4,000, the Chiefs need play makers on offense. Alex Smith has one, Peyton has at least four. By no means am insinuating that Smith would have equaled Manning given same circumstances. Nor am I suggesting that Manning would have struggled to 3,300 yards (albeit in 15 games). However, I have seen enough to know that Alex Smith can win a Super Bowl. He just can't do it without a better supporting cast. I think we will find out this postseason that we need more horses in the race if we are going to win.
