All I've heard about Alex Smith is that he is really smart, doesn't make mistakes and he is accurate. I seriously question the "smart" part when it comes to the end of the game. Against San Diego we scored with 1:22 left on the clock and then Rivers led a touchdown drive. I don't blame Alex for this but it made me worry. However, with 20 seconds left on the clock and 2 timeouts his 1st play is a 7 yard pass over the middle? Timeout used and game over. He had to throw deep over the middle or a sideline pass there, right? Now I know that the odds were against us but 20 yards over the middle and a timeout and we got a shot at field goal range.
This week, even if Alex Smith did connect with Bowe on the 4th down, Denver would have had over a minute and a half (granted no timeouts but we are talking Peyton Manning) to win the game. That wasn't a smart play even if it worked!! A short in bounds pass for a 1st down and Denver can't stop the clock. Hell, we could have then RUN after a 1st down and still had 3 shots at the end zone to win it. Is this Reid's play call? I don't live in KC. Has anyone been putting pressure to get an answer on this? If this part doesn't get fixed, it may well be the issue that ends our season come playoff time.
Can someone provide me with an answer?
