It's a bad loss but the Chiefs can beat the Colts. I don't walk away from this game feeling the Colts are so much better than the Chiefs that KC couldn't compete. I felt that the Chiefs beat themselves as much as anything with silly mistakes that they don't normally make. I mean, a taunting penalty? Multiple third down penalties? Four turnovers? These aren't things we've been seeing from the Chiefs throughout the season, so part of me wonders if it's a bit of an outlier game (well, it is the biggest loss this season). The Chiefs probably aren't turning it over four times if they play again, right?
Dontari Poe was just trash talking. At least that's what he said about his taunting penalty. I asked him if it was normal for there to be trash talk throughout the game and he said it was. He did not tell us specifically what he said. Andy Reid also indicated after the game that Poe was at fault. Poe is a laid back dude so I am surprised to see him hit with a taunting call. He's very soft spoken (hard to record his voice after the game) so it's just hard to imagine what he's saying in there.
The Colts were more intense. Several quotes I heard from Chiefs players after the game: "They were more intense." "They wanted it more." "We got our butt kicked." "We got our ass kicked." That's the same message from multiple players so there's probably something to it. This makes me wonder if there was a let down, given the Chiefs clinched the playoffs last weekend. Several players were asked about that and not one said they felt it was a let down game. I guess the silver lining here is that the Chiefs probably aren't going to have an intensity problem in the playoffs. At least I hope not.
Dunta Robinson says it well. Dunta will be a quoted man this week. "It's one of those moments where you have to look in the mirror in all three phases. They came in today and kicked our ass, and we deserved everything we got. No excuses. You have to look in the mirror, and we have to decide what kind of team we want to be moving forward. Okay, you dominate Oakland, yeah you dominate the Redskins, but what are we going to do when we face other powerhouses? We're a much better team than we showed today, and we have to play like it."
Chargers game is meaningless. Will the Chiefs rest players against the Chargers? There's been no indication. Geoff Schwartz said he personally wasn't a fan of it but that he didn't know what Reid would do.
