Chase Daniel should not be a Kansas City Chief. Boom! I said it. I likely just offended dozens of people. Get over it.
I watched the Week 14 Washington game, and when Daniel came on the field I thought, "cool! Give the backups some love!".
And then I cringed, several times. First of all, Daniel's hand-off speed (or lack thereof) was laughable. Seriously, Old Man Fivehead Frankenstein Manning gets the ball to his backs faster. I really couldn't watch those hand-offs. Alex Smith throws the ball faster than Daniel gives it to Knile Davis.
Secondly, that interception he threw? I could have picked that off, and I am 5'11", 190 lbs, and run a 5.2. My vertical leap is 20-something inches, but I wouldn't have even needed to leave the ground to intercept that pass. I understand that he's a backup QB, but a little safety blanket in case, God forbid, AS11 gets hurt would be wonderful. That ball was so far behind the intended receiver that I was expecting an intentional grounding penalty. It was so slow in the air that I thought Daniel had just punted it.
Don't get me wrong, I'm an avid Chiefs fan. As such, I want the best for the team. Chase Daniel is anything but.
What are the options? I went to the Green Bay preseason game, and I actually like what I saw in Bray. The man can sling the ball. Also, the coming draft will be loaded with quarterback talent, some of which will be further from the center of attention than the huge names. Should we draft a QB to eventually assume Alex Smith's place? Should we just ignore the problem for the time being since AS11 is fairly young? I don't know the answers to those questions, but I do know that Chase Daniel is not what the Kansas City Chiefs want in the long run. And if he proves me wrong, thank God.
