Remember when ... An ode to how far the Kansas City Chiefs have come

From the FanPosts. The nightmares memories! -Joel

Perspective. I wrote this article (my first FanPost woooo) to help put this season in perspective. Now, Alex Smith is right, we don’t get any trophies for starting 9-0. But it sure has been a fun ride so far. Throughout this season, fans have been debating whether this team is good enough to win in the playoffs and win the SuperBowl. The point of this article isn’t to re-hash this argument that will go on ad-nauseam until we play Enver (in primetime!) next weekend. The point is to highlight how AWESOME it is that fans can even HAVE this argument.

I spent a few minutes today reflecting on how far this team has come. I started writing down some of the horrific, awful memories of the recent seasons we have endured in Kansas City (yes it was difficult, but also a bit therapeutic). It helped me put this season in perspective, especially since the majority of these memories are not very old at all.

Hopefully when you read through these , you will smile and think "damn, this team might not be as perfect as their record, but at least we aren’t in this situation anymore."

Remember When…

Some Jerome Harrison guy rushed for 286 yards on us? Third most ALL TIME. Oh and we also lost that game to Brady Quinn (remember last season when we thought "hey, maybe Quinn can be our spark to turn this season around")

Derrick Johnson rode the bench while Cory Mays and Demorrio Williams played ahead of him?

Tyson Jackson was the biggest draft bust in recent memory.

Larry Johnson called out our head coach and our fans on Twitter? Not to mention he spit on women and threw drinks in their faces. He was 75 yards from becoming the team's all-time leading rusher, but Chiefs fans petitioned to not allow this man in their record books (Go us).

We lost Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry, and Tony Moeaki to season-ending injuries? They would never be the same... (2 of 3 isn’t bad, right?)

We didn’t hold a lead until Week 9 of the regular season? Putting us in the company of the Buffalo Bison (Seriously? That was a team?)

Ron Edwards was our answer at nose tackle?

Our head coach had no idea know why Jamaal only got a handful of touches?

Our defense went into the "auto-dime"? Romeo, I never understood this one.

A segment of fans cheered when our starting QB got hurt? We led SportsCenter that week since Eric Winston called us ALL out.

We ran a spread offense with Tyler Thigpen as our QB?

Mike Brown and Ty Law started on our defense?

Samie Parker was an up-and-coming, promising WR?

Arrowhead had lost its winning mystique? There was no home field advantage and it seemed like its history had been forgotten.

Our coach’s main motivation tactic was hanging up an "Eliminate Bad Football" sign in the locker room?

Our defense set an NFL record for least amount of sacks in a season with 10. We did that in one game this year…!!!

The yellow seats in Arrowhead were always empty? (Wait, never mind)

Fans chipped in their cash to pay for a banner to fly above our stadium that read "Save our Chiefs- Fire Pioli, Bench Cassel". So many donated, there was enough money to fly the banner twice.

This Article?

Thomas Jones broke our (then) promising first round pick’s hand?

Tyler Palko was our QB? His first career touchdown pass came on a Hail Mary to McCluster.

At this point in the season, we were almost always arguing about mock drafts, instead of how our 9-0 team is or isn’t good enough?

What about you guys? What memories do you have of our team that help put this season in perspective?
