NFL power rankings, Week 10: The Kansas City Chiefs stay perfect

Kevin Hoffman-USA TODAY Sports

Deep into the season, only one team has woken up every Monday with no regrets.

Another week, and another win for the Kansas City Chiefs.

The only perfect team in the NFL heads into its bye week at a beautiful 9-0, leading the Denver Broncos by 1.5 games in the AFC West. Even better, the team is very healthy and now has two weeks to prepare for the biggest regular season contest in recent memory.

On a side note, the great thing about the game is the Chiefs only have to split against Denver. Winning the first matchup in primetime would be epic, but just a split will get the job done. Anyway, back to the power rankings.

Without further rambling, here they are:

4. Another week, another backup QB dispatched with extreme prejudice, and another week that makes you wonder exactly what Alex Smith is capable of against an upper-echelon opponent that's going to take 24 points or more to beat. Putting the Chiefs higher than 4th basically certifies them as a favorite to reach the Super Bowl, so consider this. In 2000, Trent Dilfer of the Ravens was 20th in the league in Yards per Attempt among QBs who threw at least 200 passes. In 2002, Brad Johnson was 19th. The Chiefs currently rank 31st, and that's only due to the pure havoc that Josh Freeman wrought on the Tampa Bay passing game. Even if you think the Chiefs D is the equal of all-time greats like the 2000 Ravens or 2002 Buccaneers, they're being asked to do even MORE heavy lifting than those units due to KC's punchless passing attack. (Last Week: 4)

CBS Sports (Pete Prisco)

1. They get a bye before their huge game at Denver. They can't be faulted for their record, no matter what.

CBS Sports (Pat Kirwan)

1. The Chiefs are 9-0 at their bye and there's a tough road ahead. They win with defense and an offense that doesn't give games away. That formula may not hold up deep into the playoffs but time will tell. Alex Smith is 28-5-1 since 2011 so he must be doing something right.

ESPN

1. Say what you will about a vanilla offensive performance Sunday, but the undefeated Chiefs keep finding ways to win. Kansas City has a bye to prep for Denver.

Cincy Jungle

1. The Chiefs don't always win pretty but most importantly they win. They deserve the top spot until someone beats them.

The Phinsider

1. 9-0 and still rolling. It's not always pretty, but they are the first team guaranteed to have a winning record this year.

Big Blue View

3. Welcome to the Top 3, Kansas City, as the undefeated Chiefs stayed strong on the road against an underrated Bills D. We're all anxious to see this defense line up vs. Manning. (LW: 4)

Bleeding Green Nation

1. Another game, another close win. KC scored 23 points, but none of them were from an offensive touchdown. So, yeah, they have a good defense, but the offense isn't cutting it.

Mile High Report

2. Another week and yet another third string quarterback for the "vaunted" Chiefs defense. Alex Smith put up an historic 9 offensive points and willing his defense to another 14 point output. It's becoming more and more apparent that the Broncos will have plenty of chances to win against this team, even if they end up minus in the turnover margin. If Jamaal Charles and company can't even put up points against the lowly Bills, then all Denver needs to do is score 24 points(which is about half their season average right now) and they should be good for the win. Two weeks...can't wait! At least Chiefs fans get to enjoy the undefeated record for another 10 days.

All that said, if I'm going to troll Chiefs fans the least I can do is rank them where they probably should be ranked given their defensive output through 9 games.
