Not sure if anyone noticed, but after being burnt x amount of times by the screen pass and cut back runs, Sutton adjusted and the d line played off the ball and went to a more reactive mode (like we did all the time in previous years) to read the ball carrier and avoid giving up another big run. It was a brilliant move because, as awesome as our defense is, a very aggressive defensive is susceptible to screen passes and cut-back runs.
In the past, I never saw adjustments. I'm encouraged by this because, not only are we talented, but our leaders check the ego at the door, communicate with each other and make adjustments. And they certainly didn't wait until the next week to make the adjustment. If they had, we would probably have one loss today.
Anyone see the beautiful pocket Tom Brady has to throw behind the majority of the time? If and when we can get to that point, you'll see increased numbers from Alex and the offense overall. Please keep in mind, new coordinator, new offense, new team, new receivers, etc. for Alex. Most we very displeased with Trent Green his first year, but I'm willing to give the QB the benefit of the doubt when it's a new team and new, sub-par receivers. The offense will get better, but like Trent was throwing to Snoop Minnis his first year, they made intelligent personnel moves and the rest was history. Give him time and hope the line gets better; otherwise, 20-25 points will be our max.
We're doing well on defense because the D line is productive. If only the o-line can step up its consistency, we'll put up more points. They're not bad, so don't get me wrong; but it sure would be nice to see a pocket like Tom Brady has.
