I would first like to state that I am with people not understanding why Reid called that time out. None of us truly knows what was going on the field for him to call that time out with 15 seconds left on the play clock. That being said, the only mistake he made was calling that time out early.
People have complained a lot about us scoring the Touch Down after the time out. Stating that we should have burned more clock or made them used their time outs. What I don't think people are thinking through is that they had 2 time outs!! Which lets say if we ran 2 times and each run play would have taken lets say 5 seconds off the clock. The Chargers would have used their time outs which would have only taken 10 seconds off the clock, so with us calling the time out at 1:28 remaining on the clock. That would have put the clock at 1:18.
Now, that leaves us only one play to get the go ahead touchdown. We have had trouble this year within the 10 yard line punching it in for a Touch Down. Hell even earlier in this game we had to settle for a field goal. Any ways let say we run it just incase we don't get the Touch Down we can burn more clock and we get the Touch Down, that would have only taken another 5 seconds (that's 15 seconds total) putting the clock around 1:10 for Rivers to drive down the field and get his own go ahead touch down. ( I will also state this, if we didn't score that would have left Rivers 30-35 seconds to get a Game winning FG. It is much easier to stop some one from getting a go ahead TD the FG if not would have been over time)
The Chargers scored their touch down with 22 seconds left on the clock, during that time they only used one time out after berry sacked Rivers. 22 seconds is plenty of time to get on the ball and spike it, which would have played the part of the time out. So lets say everything stayed the same except Andy did run a couple plays to try and burn clock, it would have only been able to burn 15 seconds. I really don't think I would trade 2 downs to score a touch down in that situation just to burn 15 seconds. I mean no matter what we want a touch down there right? We go for the win and not the tie, right??
I think majority of people have really not thought this through. To criticize Reid for 15 seconds is just absurd! I mean most of you guys complaining now would be complaining if we didn't score there and got beat by a field goal. People would be calling out his play calling, to the saying I new this offense would lose us the game in the end, and also saying we played to conservative. I mean no matter the way it was handled it. If it came down that we lost, it would have been a mistake.
