As the Chiefs kept winning, I started thinking about what would happen when they finally don't win a game. As expected you have some people who remain rational and some people who are off the handle. Which is to be expected. I have tried to refrain from looking at any Chief fan sites the last few days and come back when everything was calmed down a little bit.
Coming into this season, I saw many fans(not just this site but across the board) who said they would be happy with anything from 6-9 wins and felt like that would be this team going in the right direction.
Then all of a sudden the Chiefs run off 9 straight. Obviously raising hope and expectations. But the thing to remember is this team was a 2 win team last year.
As we all know when a new coaching staff and front office comes in, it takes them awhile to build the team they want.
Luckily for Dorsey and Reid they had a pretty decent core here. They looked at this team and found the holes. We fixed, our CB problem, we filled the MLB hole, we filled the DE hole, and we filled the hole at QB. The last comment will get people talking, but if you don't think Alex Smith is a better QB than Cassel/Quinn than you really don't watch enough football.
Do we still have holes on this team? Absolutely we do. But it is IMPOSSIBLE to fill all those holes in 1 off-season. Dorsey wanted to shore up the defense first and get a QB. Next year, I will guarantee we shore up the offensive line and probably the WR position next off-season.
Rebuilding a roster takes time and I am very happy with the direction of this team. This isn't going to be a team that looks good 1 year and horrible the next. I feel we are building something good here and the success will only continue.
1 loss to probably the best team in the AFC at their place isn't the end of the world. And there is no need to fly off the handle.
And honestly, if we only win 1 or 2 more games the rest of the year, THIS YEAR WILL STILL BE A SUCCESS--(just go back and look at your pre-season predictions)
