Ok so they technically aren't my Chiefs, but you know what I mean. This isn't going to be some stat laden post, it is actually going to be a rather mundane fanpost, but considering I am a relative newbie here, I would like to explain myself and who I am of sorts.
I am a 29 year old male, who has served in the military now for 12 years. I was not born in KC, actually a small SE KS town named Fort Scott, but I lived several years of my still young life in Overland Park, very near the Truman Sports Complex. The first football game I can ever remember seeing was a KC playoff loss (ironic I know) to SD in '91 I think. I vividly remember John Carny hitting a 50+ yd FG in that game. I don't remember anything from the '92 season honestly, but things get much clearer around the time I saw Joe Montana walking through the KCI airport on the news announcing he was a Chief. 93' was AMAZING! Even if it ended somewhat disappointingly in Buffalo (watched it and cried afterward) I still remember the pride that was mine from my team actually getting somewhere. The playoff win that year against Pittsburgh was amazing, Nick Lowery kicking the winner in OT. Why couldn't he stay around for another couple years? I have watched all the same games most if not all here have, probably with no less emotion attached to them. I've cried often over the fortunes and misfortunes of my Chiefs; Montana's epic comeback on MNF in '94 @ DEN which can be seen on YouTube here, Pete Stoyanovich kicking the 54 yd to beat DEN in '97 which can also be seen on YouTube here, and of course the heart breakers which I will not name (there's too many).
It has got to the point where there are times that I can almost know how the game will go based off how it starts, but this year's team is different. Several times I have believed things were going to go south and we pull it out. Now I don't believe we will go undefeated, honestly I really don't want to in the regular season at least. I believe we can and will ultimately wrap up the AFC #1 seed and have a real possibility of a Super Bowl appearance now.
I enjoy the posts here and the conversation others in the Chiefs Kingdom provide. I am often on an island where I live as far as Chiefs fans go. Not many, if any, but I do my best to represent. Hail Chiefs!
