A Few Names On The Trading Block

A few names that you could see come up in the next couple of weeks. Obviously this could easily change as the trade deadline isn’t until 10/29. A few wins from these teams and they won’t be trading any of their players. Also we are seeing the league open up a bit when it comes to trades so I can see the Chiefs making a move when in recent years these trades never really happened. All of these pickups are 4th round and later trades. Not blockbuster trades.

Cecil Shorts

His price tag is probably too high for what you are getting back. But he is a cheap WR that is fast and has good hands. I think he is the ideal WR that you are looking for in Reid’s system and Smith’s strengths. The Jags are terrible and I would be selling whatever pieces I could for this upcoming draft if I were them.

Steve Smith

A guy that is past his prime, but still has something left in the tank. Carolina will need to completely start over when it comes to getting pieces around Newton on offense and by then Smith will be done. Might as well get something for him and the Chiefs could use another speed guy that isn’t afraid to run across the middle.

Emmanuel Sanders

Can you see the theme that is going on? Speed and plenty of it on this list. Sanders is in the last year of his contract. Steelers are going nowhere this season and Sanders would be a great addition to this roster for cheap. Another guy who can stretch the field but more just a guy that can get open and let Smith put it on him.

Donald Brown

There are probably other names I can put for a backup RB, but another guy who is in the last year of his contract. The Colts suddenly don’t have a need for the 4 decent RBs on their roster and Brown is an insurance option. Also what I love about Brown is in his 462 career carries he has never fumbled.

Ryan Clark

Another pattern is that a lot of these guys on this list are free agents at the end of the year. I don’t know why teams don’t get rid of these guys more, kind of like you do in baseball. You would think a team would take a 5th round pick for a guy on a team that probably isn’t going to be there next year. Clark is 33 and a rental for sure but he is an upgrade over Lewis. Lewis is great depth but I don’t think he’s a starter. Clark is an NFL starter.

Nate Allen

The Philly connection here is obvious. Allen is an upgrade over Lewis for sure. There are very few bright spots on the defense but Allen is one. He can definitely be even better with better players around him. Why would the Eagles get rid of him? He’s not Chip’s guy first so who knows if he really wants him. Second this is his last year in his contract. I think Allen would be more of a long term answer if you are confident about resigning him I wouldn’t mind spending a little higher draft pick for him.

What do you guys think? Anyone else you would like to see on the list and who do you want the most?
