The Arrowhead Award for week five is going to Marcus Cooper. Without a doubt, no brainer. The D worked its tail off but Cooper won us the game. Here's his stat line: 1 tackle, 1 tackle assist, 1 fumble recovery, 3 passes defended, 1 interception, 1 TD. He has been the most productive rookie on this team in limited but growing playing time.
The seventh round pick of the San Francisco 49ers switched from wide receiver to his current position of corner back his senior year at Rutgers where he played in 13 games starting just one recording 26 tackles (3 for a loss), 1 interception and a blocked kick.
Cooper has consistently been put on an island in this attacking defense pulling in the 18th best PFF ranking at 2.4.
For today at least, more important than his coverage was his fumble recovery in the end zone for a touchdown on special teams which until late in the game was our only score.
His 6’2" 192lb frame in addition to Sean Smith at 6’3" 218lb helps us to match up better against the Broncos. (Demaryius Thomas 6’3" 229, Eric Decker 6’3" 214)
I’m sure Jalil Brown would have had a similar impact. Right? Jamaal Charles had another solid day and Dontari Poe wreaked havoc along the line both were in consideration for the award this week.
