Houston Texans vs. Kansas City Chiefs: A brief history

Bob Levey

There is little history between the two teams, but some new lore could be created Sunday.

The Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs will meet Sunday, with much of their rosters looking very different from their last meeting in 2010.

Of course, that game is known to many Chiefs fans for the Brandon Flowers pass interference call, which rankled many folks rooting for the red and yellow. Ultimately, Kansas City lost 35-31 but won the AFC West that season with a 10-6 mark.

Ironically, the Texans are one of two teams never to have lost in Arrowhead Stadium. It will be up to first-time NFL starting quarterback Case Keenum to keep that streak alive. Houston has only played once in Arrowhead, triumphing 24-21 in 2004 in the same game that Priest Holmes became the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

Houston head coach Gary Kubiak was kind of involved against the Chiefs as a player, mostly holding a clipboard for John Elway from 1983-91 as a backup quarterback of the Denver Broncos. In Andy Reid's career against Houston, he is 3-0 all-time.

Few notable players have played for both teams, but the names include currents such as Wade Smith and Dunta Robinson, along with right tackle Eric Winston.
