Blisters keep Jamaal Charles out of KC Chiefs first practice of Titans week

Howard Smith-USA TODAY Sports

The KC Chiefs began their preparations for the Tennessee Titans in Week 5 without Jamaal Charles, who is nursing blisters on his feet.

The Kansas City Chiefs continue to deal with a lot of injuries. At 4-0, they're dealing with them very well. Playing a game without Jamaal Charles, however, is not a way to go about making that 5-0.

According to ESPN's Adam Teicher, Jamaal Charles was one of (at least) five Chiefs starters who did not practice on Wednesday. Along with Charles, Brandon Flowers, Dustin Colquitt, Eric Fisher and Kendrick Lewis did not practice.

Charles is the big one. He had "extensive" blisters on his feet, according to Chiefs head coach Andy Reid after Sunday's game against the Giants. Reid seemed to indicate that this wasn't something that was going to keep him from playing. For now, I would guess this is a rest day for Charles as he continues to heal. These sorts of injuries will pop up throughout the season. Getting it healed right the first time is important.

For Flowers, it's the knee inflammation Reid has mentioned before. He was questionable entering the Week 3 game against the Eagles but did play before exiting early due to the knee injury. He didn't play last week against the Giants. I'm hoping / guessing Flowers will be available to play considering he seemed close last week. Even if he doesn't play, the Chiefs have shown they have a capable back-up in Marcus Cooper.

For Colquitt, it's a knee sprain. He went down last week against the Giants but continued to punt. Ryan Succop was warming up when Colquitt initially went down so I guess he'd be the emergency punter. But until the Chiefs start bringing punters in for a workout, I'm predicting he will play.

For Fisher, it's a concussion. Reid said he was really hit in the shoulder area. That seemed to suggest it's not severe. It's tough to predict how concussions will go though. Fisher will have to pass the NFL's concussion protocol first.

For Lewis, it's probably the same sprained ankle he suffered last week. Like Flowers, he was questionable entering last week's game. Unlike Flowers, he played.

As for the other injured Chiefs...

Fasano hasn't played since Week 1. Allen missed last wee's game.

Update: The full injury report has a lot more guys listed. 14 total.
