Dexter McCluster named AFC special teams player of the week

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

The KC Chiefs return man was awarded with the AFC special teams player of the week for his 89-yard punt return TD against the New York Giants in Week 4.

Once again we are writing about a Kansas City Chiefs player who has been named the AFC player of the week. In Week 1 and Week 3, it was KC Chiefs LB Justin Houston who amassed 7.5 sacks in those two games.

In Week 4 it's Dexter McCluster, the AFC special teams player of the week.

The reason behind the award is this:

McCluster's return was not just a great play. It was a HUGE play in the course of the Giants-Chiefs game. You look at the final score -- 31-7 -- and think the game was a blowout but it wasn't until the fourth quarter. McCluster's late third quarter return flipped the game to the Chiefs favor. Biggest play of the game.

And we should also mention that McCluster's play wouldn't have happened unless Andy Reid challenged this spot.

We've been waiting for the KC Chiefs special teams unit to break out and they did in Week 4. Now let's see it again in Week 5 against Tennessee.

Congrats to DMC!
