Introduction and How to Beat the Raiders

First off, I suppose I ought to introduce myself. I'm ta2tony, and I'm a recovering Chiefs discussion board addict. I used to frequent the old KC Star (and RaiderHater's Delphi reproduction board) discussion board and spend most of my 8 hours at work arguing whether or not LJ deserved a new contract...amongst other things. Anywho...along came Pioli and I was all in. We got our guy (remember when he was exactly what we wanted?) and after the wheels feel off in year 3 I called it quits. I no longer had the desire to spend my entire day talking about the Chiefs... Well guess what? I'm back. I've spent the last year or so lurking around Arrowhead Pride, to get my daily fix of Chiefs news, breakdowns, and rumors. And I've finally had enough. I signed up last night and I'm here to tell you how the Chiefs will beat the Raiders. Offense: The offense is going to do their thing, I don't foresee a special game plan against the perhaps average Raiders defense. It seems the last few weeks the Chiefs have started their scripted opening to the game with a spread offense, with Charles out wide and Smith in the gun. I don't think that will be the case. This is going to be a hard hitting Raiders game. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Chiefs come out and run the option, or out of the pistol...or both. I think we actually attempt to establish the run early. The offense will stall a few times, but per the plan, will do just enough to chew up the clock, control the ball, and not lose the game. Defense: You're not going to like this. I don't predict a lot of sacks for Houston (assuming he plays) this week, nor from Hali. You might think we defend Prior in a similar manner to how we defensed Vick. If you recall, against the Eagle Sutton ran a 4-man front, with two downlinemen (Poe and Jackson/Devito) and two DE's (Hali and Houston) and rushed those four most every down. I don't think this is the case. Against the Eagles we were trying to prevent the big pass and almost welcomed Vick and McCoy to run. Everyone looks at the rushing yard Philly put up as a black mark, but I believe it was by design. We wanted to slow Philly down by urging them to run on our small defensive set, rather than encourage them to pass and go for the quick 70 yard TD pass to Jackson. I think this is what Hali meant when he recently said Sutton makes the opposing team react to his defense. No, I believe we will defend Prior the same way we defensed Romo. Why you ask? Because you want Prior, just like Romo, to throw from the pocket. This is when they hurt you the least. Prior, like Romo before him, excels at passing (and rushing) when he the play breaks down and he leaves the pocket. If you recall the defense we used against Dallas, it was frustrating but effective. Our best pass rusher dropped into coverage on most downs, and we only rushed 3 or 4. We didn't get many sacks, but Sutton made Romo do what he wanted, pass from the pocket. With this same game plan, I predict Oakland struggles to score 10 points. Using the base 3-4 defense we'll rush 4 (Jackson, Poe, DeVito, Hali) and will have Houston, Jordan, and Johnson dropping short. With the three staring him down, Prior is going to be hesitant to run. He's going to stand in the pocket and take his chances throwing into our man coverage. This tactic forces the Raiders to play Sutton's game. I expect a great game from our secondary. Well, there you have it. My first post is my first long-winded write-up. Can't wait to hear your feedback. Go Chiefs! Chiefs 28 -- Raiders 6
