Dear Members of the Campaign,
In my 20+ years on this planet, I've been a fan of anything Kansas City Sports. My grandfather was a reporter and editor for the Sports section in the 50s, 60s, 70s. One of my first memories is seeing my family sitting together at Kauffman , eating ice cream from a plastic Royals helmet as my dad explained who the Quis was.
I was a vocal doubter of what you guys were doing. I live in Los Angeles and get most of my news from NFL Network on Sirius. I'm lucky enough to be friends with producers from NFL based shows and reporters.
To the outside world , despite our season not being what it was expected , very few people ever contemplated the Hunt family allowing Scott Pioli to spend less than 5 seasons as the Kansas City GM.
Over History, most General Managers are given Two Franchise Quarterback Attempts before talk of a move is made. GMs that work for the HUNTS are given more time. Lamar went through 10+ attempts of finding a Franchise QB before firing Carl Peterson.
Even in Los Angeles , where the Lakers can get Phil Jackson, Shaq, Kobe, Gasol, and Howard for the price of a smile and a song. This move means something. Nationally.
CLARK HUNT LISTENED TO YOU. And by you I don't mean the usually awful fire starters of the once legendary newspaper my grandfather used to love. I don't mean the 60+ year old newscasters who shouldn't have a job any more than Pioli or Peterson. This was you. The fans who stood up and said "don't RISK us become the Saints, or Browns, or Bengals". The little engine who dared to speak it's mind. The little engine that DID.
I don't think that Clark Hunt will ever care about his approval numbers. But I think he cares about you. I think he cares about not what Pioli did over 4 years but what - as a franchise - the Chiefs haven't done. EVERY single move this offseason can be debated.
But, one of the youngest OWNERS (who is usually known for being Hands OFf) in the league found and fought to get the best possible coach to mentor into being a Franchise QB. The GM to be , Dorsey is known for being a Quarterback Guru.
Clark Hunt stood beside you this past week. He did not stand behind historical estimations of the life of an NFL GM. He did not spare a moment to try another "coaching experiment" .
Even though GIF Artists and Pundits will call this Andy Reid's Chiefs. Until April's draft, #SAVEOURCHIEFS , they are yours. Clark Hunt didn't save them, you did.
Is this over? No. This year you may have lost a coach and a GM, but you gained - what could potentially be - a fantastic owner.
Keep Inspiring and Influencing the Underdogs,
GO CHIEFS!
