The KC Chiefs coaching search may be winding down with plenty of reporters saying Andy Reid and the Chiefs are nearing a deal. The next step in the process is figuring out which GM he will be paired with -- if it's not Scott Pioli.
ESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen are so confident that Andy Reid will be getting the Kansas City Chiefs head coaching job that they've moved on to talking about which GM he could possibly bring with him.
Scott Pioli is currently the Chiefs GM but ESPN, like a number of other outlets, do not believe Pioli would stick around with the Chiefs if/when Reid is hired.
The two possible GM candidates mentioned by ESPN are Tom Heckert and John Dorsey.
Heckert has been connected to Reid dating back to their time together in Philadelphia. Heckert was most recently the Browns GM, where he was fired on Monday.
The Cleveland Plain-Dealer and NFL.com have both reported that Reid plans to bring Heckert with him to his next job, but the ESPN report states that Reid did not "demand" that to the Chiefs.
Dorsey is the Packers director of operations and his name has come up in various GM jobs around the league.
The same sources insist Reid did not demand that former Browns GM Tom Heckert had to be a package deal as the team's future general manager because he still wants to gauge whether John Dorsey, the Packers director of operations, would consider the position of GM, the sources added.
So, whoever it is, it's looking like it won't be Scott Pioli.
We shall see. As all of us have learned today, things can (and probably will) change.
