The 2013 NFL Draft begins on Thursday, April 25th, meaning the new coaching staff has just over 3 months to evaluate. The top prospects include guys like OT Luke Joeckel, DT Star Lotulelei, QB Geno Smith, LB Jarvis Jones, LB Barkevious Mingo, DE Damontre Moore, CB Dee Milliner and QB Tyler Wilson.
The Chiefs have 2 glaring needs coming into the draft:
the QB position following the atrocious season of the Brady Quinn/Matt Cassel disaster, which we should've seen coming as the exact same scenario played out in Romeo's first stint in Cleveland with the same outcome.
the CB position has been left battered, the Chiefs gave up way too many yards to opposing WR's and lost #2 CB Stanford Routt midseason. In today's passing league, top tier CB's are a must.
HC Andy Reid and GM John Dorsey have both proclaimed that they will take the best player available in the draft, which to some might signify they will draft OT Luke Joeckel with the #1 overall pick and take their chances with who is left when they pick again at #33. QB Geno Smith is the top QB prospect, but may not be the best player available at that number one slot.
If Andy Reid declines to pick up QB Geno Smith and Geno ends up going to Philadelphia at #4, Andy Reid better hope Geno ends up being a bust. If I were Andy Reid the fear of this happening would be reason enough for me to draft Geno with that #1 overall pick.
Who do you guys think the Chiefs should take with their #1 overall draft pick?
