NFL Post Season Overtime Rules

Question to the experts:

Why do they even have a clock running in OT during post season games if they aren't going to re-flip the coin after each OT? There is no reason to have a clock running at all during post season OT because the scoring of points is the only thing that ends or even stops the game. The clock in OT would matter if they stopped the game and re-flipped the coin after each OT period, but they don't, after an OT period ends they just do a commercial, then come back to the same ball spot - thus there is no need for the clock at all as far as I can tell??
