The Kansas City Chiefs fired Romeo Crennel on December 31 and hired Andy Reid on January 4. Since then Reid has been tasked with building a coaching staff. There's nothing official or announced yet but we have the latest rumors around the new staff.
Just about every day since Andy Reid was hired we've had a different rumor surface about his coaching staff. Reid and the Chiefs haven't announced anything yet so this is all in the rumor stage at this point.
Here's everything we know about the Chiefs possible coaching staff:
More: Chiefs coaching rumors | Chiefs GM rumors
: Per several reports, it's Doug Pederson
, who coached the quarterbacks under Reid in Philly, and played for Reid in 1999. Philly outlets report it's happening. Local outlets, like the Star, indicate he's the front-runner. So expect it to happen.
: Brad Childress visited the Chiefs
. It was reported that he would not be the quarterbacks coach and he would not be the offensive coordinator. But he could still have a role on the team, like some sort of offensive assistant or consultant.
: Matt Nagy
was the quality offensive control coach under Reid in Philadelphia. Several Philly-area reporters have thrown out the rumor that Reid wants to bring Nagy with him to Kansas City. Evidence of that maybe happening: Nagy's apparent agency posted a picture of him and listed him as the Chiefs quarterbacks coach
on their website. That combined with Philly reporters saying Reid wants him to come to Kansas City is a good sign this could happen.
At one point, we all thought it would be Juan Castillo, Reid's former assistant in Philly. Apparently not. At least not yet. Castillo has been connected to other jobs but I haven't heard of any solid reports saying he's coming to Kansas City. It's been rumored that Reid wants to bring along Eugene Chung
, who was an offensive line assistant in Philly.
Running backs coach
: Eric Bieniemy is the choice according to several reports. The Denver Post first said he's "under strong consideration" and PFT followed up saying it's done
. Bieniemy was Colorado's offensive coordinator the last two seasons. Last week it was reported that Reid wanted to take Ted Williams, the Eagles
running backs coach, with him. With the Bieniemy news, it would appear that didn't work out.
Wide receivers coach
: As of last week, Reid reportedly wanted to bring David Culley
, his receivers coach in Philly, with him to Kansas City. No other report has connected him to the job. He's been with Reid since 1999.
Defensive line coach
: Howard Eskin
connected Eagles defensive line coach Tommy Brasher to the Chiefs way back on January 4, saying Reid wants to bring him along. I haven't heard anything anything else to suggest it's happening, so we'll see. Brasher was retired (since 2005) until Reid brought him out of retirement in December.
