Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

Rumors have been swirling around the Chiefs coaching staff since Andy Reid was hired. One of those rumors -- that Reid was interested in Monte Kiffin to run his defense -- won't be coming to fruition, according to a report.

Monte Kiffin was a rumored name for the Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator job but he will not be the Chiefs next defensive coordinator, according to a report from ESPN Dallas.

To recap: a couple rumors were floating around that the Chiefs were interested in Kiffin, which led to this piece from KaloPhoenix wondering how the Chiefs could do in Kiffin's 4-3 defense.

Now the latest news, via ESPN Dallas:

Andy Reid was interested in appointing Kiffin to be his defensive coordinator when he took over the Kansas City Chiefs but Kiffin was not interested in that opportunity.

So, that's that.

Kiffin is reportedly the target of the Dallas Cowboys, who fired Rob Ryan this week. Cowboys fans don't seem that excited about the possibility of Kiffin.

We're no closer to figuring out who the Chiefs coordinator will be, let alone whether they'll run a 3-4 or a 4-3.
