Since everybody wants to play GM, I will try this myself. The Chiefs have a range of superior talent. We have super play makers like Charles, DJ, Hali, Berry. Now we do need to fix our QB position, fix our OL. Get the WR core some new players and also get some better helpers on in the secondary. We can do it in the off season with the draft and free agency.
The first decision I would do as the GM would be to hire Bill Cowher as my head coach. It would be a good fit for us. He is a great motivator, he has shown teams with great defenses, had both a running game and passing game. Then I belive we would bring his OC from his 05' Steelers team that won the Super Bowl which is Ken Whisenhunt that coached an two time Super Bowl QB Ben Roethlisberger and also coached Kurt Warner. Now the DC he should bring in is Jim Tomsula from the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers DL is one of the best units in the game.Schematically and mechanically, Tomsula is ready to call his own defense. If you need a 3-4 defensive coordinator, he's your man.
My second decision as GM I would release some players that need to go. I would cut Matt Cassel, Tyson Jackson, D-Bowe, Ryan Succop and Steve Breaston. Which would feel so much free space in the cap. I would put the franchise tag on Brandon Albert and try to get him long term in the new season. Then resign Glenn Dorsey give him another chance, Leon Williams, Ropati Pitoitua, Shaun Smith,Brandon Siler, and Steve Maneri (RFA) as depth.
Free Agency:As in the start of the free agency my very first target would be Mike Wallace (WR, Pittsburgh). He is the fastest WR in the game, he would help our WR problem. He would make it easier for JC to get more yards, Jon Baldwin would get better from his production, and then Devon Wylie would be are Slot WR.
My number two target in the Free Agency market with is Sam Shields (CB, Green Bay). He is a spectacular Corner who can be our #2 starting corner. My third target in free agency would be Steven Jackson (RB, St. Louis Rams). It would be our power back if we could not resign Peyton Hillis. My next two targets would bring to bring Depth at OLB and DE. The OLB would be Shaun Phillips and the DE would be Osi Umenyiora.
