The Kansas City Chiefs will not hire Bill Polian to be their next GM, according to a report from Pro Football Talk. Polian's name had come up in recent weeks but in very rumor-y fashion. I'm surprised the story had legs for even a few weeks.

It started when National Football Post wrote an item attributed to nobody that said the league grapevine has Polian as the front-runner for the Chiefs GM job.

It continued when Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports passed on the same rumor, adding no new information, but keeping it in the news.

Which brings us to today's Pro Football Talk report:

A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that, if Hunt hires a new G.M., it won't be Polian.

The Polian rumors only made sense if you were Bill Polian, trying to keep your name atop the list of potential GM candidates by slipping your name into the rumor mill now and again.
