So yeah, we kinda lost. Ok, we got hammered in the second half (and my guess is a lot of Chiefs fans got hammered, too) but I'd like to point out the first half play of Matt Cassel & Co. Good times, man. Sure, it was just one half and it's a long, long season ahead but for 30 minutes the Chiefs offense looked like ... well, an NFL offense, and THAT my friends is a very good thing. Sure, the wheels came off the bandwagon in the second half, but those can be replaced. The Important thing to carry from this game is that the offense DID something, several things, actually, that were good. Maybe better than good.
Look, nobody's going to confuse Matt Cassel with Matt Ryan, much less Tom Brady, but Cassel and the team went out and ripped it. Jamaal Charles, holy wow, is he back or is he back? Bowe got his yearly drop out of the way early and turned into SuperBowe. Moeaki's hands are still soft, Kevin Boss looks like everything we've hoped for, Eric Winston was killer good and I cannot say enough good things about Dex. I mean wow, just wow. For a half the Chiefs belonged on the field with the Falcons, and for that half the offense looked like it could and would carry this team wherever it needed to go.
For a half. Yeah, I know. We did nothing second half, and a missed field goal attempt really seemed to be the needle in the balloon. The defense looked overmatched all day long (not a good thing, esp with a road trip to Buffalo coming up). I know, Chan Gailey could find a way to pick us apart and run up 45 points by halftime, but I won't care. Why? I mean, why other than because I'm a bit insane? I'll tell you why. Because for the first time in a long time, the Chiefs have a legitimate offense to go with what eventually will be a very good defense.
Look, nobody wants to lose, including yours truly, and this would be an all too-easy time to start nagging on Cassel for a poor second-half. Nope. Not gonna do it. Not gonna jump on the defense for doing a Swiss cheese imitation. Not gonna jump on the offense for turning into the invisible team. It happens, and it DID happen, and life moves on. The sun will come up tomorrow ... tomorrow ... tomorrow ... (fine, I'll stop singing, but you get the idea). I think this team is going to be just fine, even should be lose next week, I'm not about to jump ship or panic. There's plenty of time for that later on down the road.
For now, it's full speed ahead. Geaux Chiefs!
