Chiefs injury updates: Dexter McCluster, Peyton Hillis and Rodney Hudson

Stay connected for news and updates

There were few updates from Romeo Crennel on the Kansas City Chiefs injury situation heading into Week 4. The Chiefs had three key players banged up -- Dexter McCluster, Peyton Hillis and Rodney Hudson.

McCluster's injury has been discussed plenty -- see the gross-looking injury here -- but we've yet to find out exactly what's wrong with him. The Chiefs expect to know more tomorrow (which probably means they know right now but don't want to say anything yet).

Hillis, who hurt his ankle, was in a boot, according to the KC Star's Adam Teicher. That could be something. Or it could be nothing. Hillis is important but the Chiefs can survive without him. That Jamaal Charles guy is good. Still, you don't want to be one play away from being down to Shaun Draughn, who doesn't have much experience.

Hudson has a knee injury but that's all we know. When he went down, Ryan Lilja slid over to center and Jeff Allen stepped in at guard. That combination seemed to work pretty well so I'm not as worried about Hudson. He's still important, obviously, but the way the Chiefs replaced him on Sunday was encouraging.

We're still in the guessing stage with these situations but for what it's worth:

The Chiefs are prepared to play without both of those guys. They can do it. They did it in the game. It's certainly not ideal, not by any means, but the depth has improved to the point where they can handle things like this.
