I Started this off as a comment, but it got a little too long so I decided to do my first FanPost, here it goes...
I think all the flack that's been being put out about Cassel is pointless, is the stuff people are saying true? Probably, at least the stuff about the mistakes he makes. Do we need to get a better QB? Sure, but I think he's played up to the level most of us predicted before the season started. Maybe the way he played in pre-season and the first half of the falcon's game got us to excited.
Think about it, if I gave you a scenario before the season started, where the Chiefs were down 17 - 3, our defense seemed to be having a hard time stopping the other team, and Matt wasn't getting very good protection, and I asked you how you though Matt would do what would you have said? Not too well, right? Well that's what we got, and on top of that he's had two games where the defense wasn't pulling their weight, so I'm sure he felt all sorts of pressure (mentally) who here thought Matt could handle that very well?
So my take, we're getting about what we expected from Matt, why gripe now in the middle of the season? Matt strikes me as the type that would play better without so much criticism. We all knew the formula that would win games for this team, Run the ball well, defense play up to the level we've all seen. Do those two things and Matt can be more comfortable and wonder of wonders play better. So I'm still hoping for a better QB, but right now this is what we have and the team can win with him, they proved that yesterday, (and yes I do mean with him not in spite of him). As for putting in the backup... I've seen the chiefs lose their starting QB (even one that was doing poorly) and suddenly do much worse too many times to want to try that again. If nothing else I really don't think it would help this team mentally to bench Cassel, and frankly after seeing them play the last part of the game yesterday I think that was a huge part of their problem, be that on whoever, but they got some pride back yesterday and I expect to see a different team hit the field next week.
Maybe I'm a homer, but I like rooting for the team and it's players, putting them down and calling names won't help anyone. To be fair though if Matt had pulled another Weddle throw yesterday I wouldn't have had the guts to post this, but he didn't and we won, so if you can't get behind Cassel, get behind the team, and last time I checked he's an important part of that team.
By the way how big is next week? If the chiefs win we'll be tied for first place in the division! We are so still in this. Go Chiefs!
